Our Take

Just over and hour’s drive and a short boat trip from the splendid Victoria Falls, on an island in the Zambezi, is Ichingo River Lodge. Originally built as a fishing camp, it’s been upgraded to cater for guests from all over the world. Perched on the banks of the Mombova Rapids, under magnificent shady trees, the camp offers luxury safari style tents and friendly but attentive service. The fishing in this area is renowned, owing to the mini Barbel runs which normally occur in the Kasai Chanel (between the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers) around June and July. Large Tigers can be targeted on the periphery of the schooling Catfish at this time, but in general, despite the fact that there is fairly intense fishing pressure, it offers excellent Tiger and Bream fishing. The guides and boats at Ichingo are excellent, and given the fact that the whole area is dedicated to game conservation and is relatively easy to access, it is certainly a great option for those with limited time and a hankering to get out on the water.
